Sales tax in Ontario
Ontario charges a single Harmonized Sales Tax of 13 percent, which combines the 5 percent federal GST with an 8 percent provincial portion. Because it is harmonized, you charge one HST line on the invoice rather than a separate GST and provincial tax.
The same 13 percent applies to most goods and services sold in Ontario. The place-of-supply rules mean you generally charge the rate of the province where the customer receives the goods or service, so a sale delivered into Ontario uses 13 percent even if your business sits elsewhere.
