Sales tax in British Columbia
British Columbia charges the 5 percent federal GST plus a 7 percent Provincial Sales Tax (PST), for a combined 12 percent. The PST is a separate tax administered by the province, not harmonized with the GST, so both appear as distinct lines and each is calculated on the same pre-tax base.
A key difference from HST provinces: PST paid on purchases is generally not recoverable as an input tax credit the way GST is. That asymmetry is one of the most common things businesses configure incorrectly when they expand into BC.
