Sales tax in Alberta
Alberta is the only Canadian province with no provincial sales tax. You charge only the 5 percent federal GST, which makes it the lowest sales-tax jurisdiction in the country. The three territories also charge GST only, so the same 5 percent applies there.
Because there is no PST or HST to reconcile, Alberta sales-tax setup is the simplest in Canada. The work shifts to place-of-supply rules when an Alberta business sells into provinces that do charge PST, QST, or HST.
